Ch.26

Chapter 26 fits into the theme importance of family. When the family get jobs picking peaches they realize all of them need to work, even Ruthie and Winfield, to get enough money for food. When Tom kills a man for killing Casey all the police start looking for him and he feels if he just left off on his one it would make it easier on the family. Ma Joad makes it clear to him that she needs his help to take care of and keep the family together. Al thinks that he would be better off my himself but Ma and Tom also inform him that he plays a major role in the family and they need him to drive. Winfield becomes ill and Ma does not want to lose him so they sacrifice their dinner money to buy Winfield milk, this shows that every family member is important. If a member of the family left the whole family would fall apart, it is crucial that everyone does their part to survive.

One symbol would be Casey. He is a Christ like figure and once again sacrifices himself. This time he sacrifices himself for everyone. He makes it so the workers get paid enough to live off of.

Grapes of Wrath ch.15

Chapter fifteen fits into the theme the importance of the land to the people. Mae and Al work at a roadside cafe and depend on the truck drivers to bring them business. They have other people come into the cafe but they do not want to spend a lot and like to complain. If the truck drivers go to their business people will know that it is a good cafe. It could also fit into the theme strength of women because Mae has to deal with everyone and pretty much runs the business. She gets angry sometimes but is good at her job and knows how to handle the rude people. They are located on route 66 and if they were not they would not get enough money. The truck drivers and the families moving are the only ones that give them business so it is very vital were they are located.

Great Gatsby argument

The newer version of The Great Gatsby was terrible! I did not have great expectations for the newer version but it was even lower than what I expected. In the 2000 edition none of the characters fit. Gatsby was a terrible actor and did not follow the attitude of Gatsby in the book. Daisy did not fit she seemed to smart. In the first movie they did a great job with showing the time period with costumes, hair, and surroundings but I did not see it that much in the newer version. The set up of the new version was disorganized, unlike the first. The second movie although did go into detail about certain things like how Daisy and Gatsby met, but none of this was really in the book. The second movie was definatley one of those where you should definately read the book first. Over all I didn't think the first movie was bad but the newer version was done terribly.

Daisy's Diary

How would you feel if you unexpectedly meet the man you haven't seen in almost five years whom you also at one point had strong feelings for, well this happened to me today and it was very awkward and exciting. I was invited over to my cousins house to have tea when it turns out he lives next to Gatsby, a soldier whom I had connections with before. I didn't know how to react to this but I ended up being very happy with this surprise. It started raining while we were at Nicks house putting everyone in a gloomier mood. We then talked a lot and caught up with each other to see what they have been doing for the past four years.

When Gatsby left for the war I was miserably sad and thought I would never see him again or find love again. When I met Tom I knew he was a fairly wealthy man and could provide for me so I figured he would be the perfect man for me to marry. As years went by I knew he was not being faithful to me so when I saw Gatsby again at Nick's house I did not mind that I was having reoccurring feelings for him.

The weather cleared up and I felt as if Gatsby and I were becoming more comfortable with each other making it less awkward to be around each other. Gatsby then took us over to his colossal house and showed me the beautiful shirts he had. Seeing these shirts made me realize he does have money and I was so emotional I ended up crying. He also told me he had a yacht which is also a sign of being wealthy. After seeing Gatsby and his house I got the feeling that I should have never let go of Gatsby and he would have been a the perfect guy because he ended up having money, which would have been a great security blanket.
