Ch.26

Chapter 26 fits into the theme importance of family. When the family get jobs picking peaches they realize all of them need to work, even Ruthie and Winfield, to get enough money for food. When Tom kills a man for killing Casey all the police start looking for him and he feels if he just left off on his one it would make it easier on the family. Ma Joad makes it clear to him that she needs his help to take care of and keep the family together. Al thinks that he would be better off my himself but Ma and Tom also inform him that he plays a major role in the family and they need him to drive. Winfield becomes ill and Ma does not want to lose him so they sacrifice their dinner money to buy Winfield milk, this shows that every family member is important. If a member of the family left the whole family would fall apart, it is crucial that everyone does their part to survive.

One symbol would be Casey. He is a Christ like figure and once again sacrifices himself. This time he sacrifices himself for everyone. He makes it so the workers get paid enough to live off of.
